Retire for the evening after enjoying the night skies which put on a heavenly display on a clear night. You will have a busy day tomorrow on your first day of the 2 Night Tenikwa Experience.

In preparation for a fully packed itinerary, enjoy an early morning cup of coffee and rusks, before heading up to the Awareness Centre to start your Cats in Conservation Program.

Discover fascinating facts about fynbos, its relationship to the indigenous Tsitsikamma forests and its cultural uses in the local community during a short wild walk. Learn how a simple moth contributed to the upliftment of the area and the building of an historical church still in use today as a cornerstone of the Kurland Community. Along the way, the guides will prepare you for a chance to observe the cheetahs as your paths cross in the fynbos. Get ready to take some amazing photographs as the cheetah walks by enjoying their special time of the day. A bush breakfast completes this experience.

Enjoy a private leisurely tour of the Wildlife Centre and its permanent residents to photograph and learn about the indigenous wild cats of South Africa, and an overview of the Rehabilitation Facilities, before enjoying a lunch with local South African flair and especially prepared by the girls in Chesters. Lunch includes a selection of main and dessert with non-alcoholic beverage included.

Spend time with the dedicated staff in our Rehabilitation Centre observing the work they do. The centre provided rehabilitation services to the local wildlife authorities and is one of the few that admits marine and terrestrial wildlife in need of veterinary care. Included in the many variety of animals that spend temporary time in Tenikwa is the endangered African Penguin whose natural forage area includes the Plettenberg Bay and Garden Route coastline.   Learn about the combined efforts that are being channeled into supporting the declining populations of this iconic and indicator species.

As the African sun relents and the cats become more active, join the guides as they conduct an enrichment program with the cats that call Tenikwa home, before returning to

Tenikwa Country House to relax for a while and gather your breath.

A befitting end to a busy day, sip sundowners to the sounds of the lions roaring close by. Wine or beer is served with snacks.

Dine el fresco (weather permitting) or by intimate candlelight with a home-cooked hearty meal as you reminisce about the activities of the day. Dinner includes a choice of mains and dessert.

Retire for the evening to the fading sounds of the waterfowl and wildlife which by now, feel like home.

Another early start with a refreshing forest walk, followed by breakfast el fresco style in the cool breezes of the awakening forest.

The price is

R3686 per adult per for two nights.
Rates are valid until 31 August 2020.

The Price includes all meals, accommodation, beverages and activities as specified. Additional Drinks and other optional expenses not specified in the program description are not included and must be settled by the guest prior to departure.


Children Policy

Children under 16 years old cannot be accommodated on this program.  Should you be traveling with an infant, please contact us before booking this program.


Overnight guests are accommodated in the ethnically decorated Tenikwa Country House which holds many memories of how Tenikwa came to be. The homestead has four en-suite bedrooms and is furnished to 4 Star standards. Dress code  is informal. There are resident domestic cats that share the property facilities.  The homestead is situated close to the forest with a beautiful vista of a tranquil dam home to resident waterfowl with a backdrop of the craggy mountain foothills of the Tsitsikamma Mountain Range with Formosa Peak completing the view.

The rooms are configured as follows

1 x King size bed, en-suite with shower

3 x Queen size bed, en-suite with shower

Dress Code

Parts of the activities take place over some ground which can be uneven and slippery. Guests are requested to wear comfortable clothing and sensible walking shoes.

Bags, backpacks and bulky camera bags must be locked in your vehicle or stored in one of our lockable cabinets during the activities as they may not be taken with during the activities.

Please consider bringing a hat or cap along for sun protection because the sun can be quite hot during summer. A light windbreaker is also good to include, especially for the afternoon as it can get quite chilly once the sun goes down.

Group Size

The homestead accommodates a maximum of 4 couples per night. Some of the activities included in this program are private and others will be enjoyed with day visitors and other couples booked on the overnight experiences.

Weather Policy

This is an all weather program.  Rain jackets are provided in inclement weather. No refund or reduction in program charge will be offered if inclement weather requires a change in planned activities or guests decline to take part in activities due to any reason.

Tenikwa reserves the right to change the activities in extreme weather conditions when the terrain becomes too slippery. In such cases, we will do our best to offer alternative activities.

Animal Contact Policy

Our animal contact policy follows a strict code of ethics which is compiled to ensure that the human-wildlife experience is in keeping with the natural behavior of the animal and none of the activities during this or any other program allow touching of any of the wild animals.

The activities on this program comply with the recently published Fair Trade Tourism Guidelines for Captive Wildlife in Tourism.  Guests remain behind a barrier when observing the cheetahs during their enrichment time out. It is particularly important that our cheetahs are free to express natural behavior, and its a privilege to be so close but not to interfere with this special time of their day.

Photography Policy

Guests are welcome to take photographs and video on this program. Camera bags and camera backpacks may not be taken on the program. Flash must be disabled at all times.

 Selfie-sticks may not be taken on the activities.  Tenikwa does not allow selfies to be taken with our cats and our cats are not posed for photographs.
