Enjoy the full Tenikwa experience and stay in our nature lodge or family suites. The lodge was built by the founders of Tenikwa and holds many fond memories of the story of Tenikwa and memoires of the animals who call Tenikwa home. A pristine indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest creates a backdrop to the lodge, and guests can enjoy the many waterfowl and wild birds that frequent the picturesque dam infront of the lodge.

The lodge is intimately set up to sleep 4 couples in large en-suite bedrooms with undercover patio space to relax and enjoy the sunset  and stunning mountain scenery. Dinner is served el-fresco, in the adjacent boma, or in the dining room when the fresh country air guides guests indoors. A cosy fireplace is an ideal place to congregate after dinner.

The affordable Family Suites are adjacent to the lodge. Each spacious room consists of a sleeping area (double or twins), and en-suite bathroom with a little private patio to enjoy the activities of the waterfowl on the dam. Suite 5 has an additional bed to sleep 3 with an adjoining room to sleep 2 children. Dinner is served in the lodge.

All accommodation options include dinner and breakfast as well as selected activities, depending on which option you select.

If you would like to use Tenikwa as a base to explore the many attractions in The Garden Route, we recommend that you select our Dinner, Bed & Breakfast option.

More about The Garden Route

There are plenty of Accommodation options to suit all ages, fitness levels, the family traveller and the honeymooner.  Whether you are a luxury or budget traveller, the Garden Route offers a variety of accommodation types.  The Garden Route is situated between the picturesque town of Swellendam and the majestic mountains of the Tsitsikamma (place of honey).  A visit to South Africa, is not complete without spending at least a few days amongst this spectacular scenery.  Most people, when visiting our area, are disappointed that they didn’t allocate more time as there is so much to do, and so much to see in one small stretch of coastline.

Here you will experience unspoilt forests, glistening lagoons and fresh water lakes strung like a string of pearls.  Spectacular sweeping mountains and diverse vegetation, The Garden Route is one of the most popular eco-tourist destinations in the world.  Almost 280km in length, comprising some 65 000 hectares, the Garden Route forms part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the world’s smallest, but most diverse floral kingdom, sporting over 8500 different species, over half only occurring in South Africa.

There are a whole variety of accommodation and activity options, enough to keep you busy for days on end, and suitable for all budgets from ultra luxurious Eco Lodges to self-catering cottages tucked away in the forest.  There is extreme sports, animal experiences, wonderful natural attractions, shopping for curios and hand-crafted souvenirs, as well as our traditionally happy friendly people that will bring a smile to your face.  Sunny, just like our weather.

Like all tourist hubs, one needs to choose carefully to avoid tourist traps.  Use our recommended accommodation, activities and services to plan your holiday in this area and as a guide to support the tourist businesses that are genuinely doing something for conservation or social upliftment in South Africa.  Some of these businesses, like us, do not have massive marketing budgets or clever marketing campaigns.  They are simply good, ethical businesses and we like doing business with them.
